A group of women and children who have struggled with sexual assault have been given an emotional boost by speaking out on Facebook.
The women and girls, who are part of the group ‘Survivors of Sexual Assault’, said they had been left with no one to talk to and were only told to take their time to come forward.
The group has been helping victims of sexual assault to share their experiences of their ordeal with the world.
“We’ve been helping survivors to share stories of their trauma and help others to understand the trauma,” a group member, who wished to remain anonymous, told News Corp Australia.
The Survivors of Sexual Abuse Facebook group has over 9,000 members.
The event was held at a hotel in Sydney, and the women and teenagers spoke out after learning that the hotel was not providing a place for them to sleep.
“I thought I would just take my time and let the hotel take care of it, and I thought I was just going to leave,” one of the women said.
“The hotel manager came and said, ‘I can’t do that, we don’t have any beds available’.”
I’m so glad that I did.”‘
I can feel it’It is a reminder that sexual assault is a serious crime, and that survivors of abuse need support and support can be difficult.”
For me to be able to feel that it is there, to feel like it’s happening and not just in my head, I think is a huge relief,” one woman said.
A Facebook group is also set up to support the women who are speaking out.”
It’s been quite a journey,” another survivor told News Corporation.”
In the past few months I’ve been able to talk about my experience with sexual violence, and now I’m starting to feel it in my body.
“This has been a lot of pain, a lot to deal with.”
The Survivors are hopeful that speaking out about sexual assault will help those who are in a similar situation to them.
“One of the biggest things we have in common is that we have been through this,” one survivor said.
